Default Archery

Both my son and I play our ranger characters almost exclusively, and over the last few months my son has been going on and on about wanting to try shooting a bow in real life.

Anyway, I finally gave in and we both signed up for a professionally organised beginners course in acrhery.

I have to admit it, I am totally and utterly hooked!

The course provided all the necessary equipment including good quality recurve bows to borrow together with good quailty instruction in small groups of around four people per instructor.

We started shooting at a target 15m (50ft) away, progressed to 20m (60ft) and then again to 30m (100ft). From not being able to hit the target 15m away, we have progressed to hammering arrows in and around the middle of the target at twice that distance. It is totally and utterly addictive.

The course finishes next week and we should both pass and receive a certificate of competance.

Next comes the expensive bit of buying our own bows.. but that is something I am looking forward to as they are absolutely beautiful things!

Anyway, thanks Guild Wars for making my son think of this! :-)

On final comment - My son's joke during the first week:

".... and in the next field we have the elementalist training"

LMAO. I'd love to have ele training.

But I'd personally rather have mesmer or monk training. assassin traing would rock too.

GL with the archery. I occasionaly hit a target at 30m...

well i am lucky enough to have my grandfather working atm PSE, a bow factory in arizona, so i get to shoot bows quite often and yes its wonderful. they feel of the shaft leaving the bow and then seeing it connect with the target is great, i would suggest everyone to try this at least once. im glad you are enjoying it ^^.

also ele training...hum....... *goes and grabs lighter* XD

Haha that's really funny. It's great to see Guild Wars bringing a family together. You should go deer hunting sometime and tell us what it's like. You probably won't get anything first time but who knows, you may be able to take your buddies for some fresh cooked deer someday. GL with archery (I've done it before it was cool)

Mesmer training would be the sickest most awesome training in the world. I could manipulate my friends into beating up my teachers, man that would be awesome, and they'd take the blame. Or I could manipulate Bush into attacking France (also the sickest and coolest thing to happen) no offense to French people I just hate their anti Americanism. Or I could manipulate Bill Gates and his family and then........... Get a free copy of Halo 3. (daring and ambitious I know)

thats pretty cool glad to hear people still do things as a family.

I would take it up if I was allowed near sharp instruments of death....or lighters....or anything that can be considered a weapon.....don't ask

Archery....

Dont know what the laws are like in the USA but i get to do it here all the time, i have my own targets set up (i live on a few acres-approx 3000!) I use a browning illusion atm, but to the person who's family member works for PSE ive used a few of those bows to and they are nice to shoot . But i agree with everyone on what fun it is to do and also how nice it is that you can do it as a family, so rare to see now adays .

Now Rit training.....that would be awsome lol.

Edit: this is a really nice and refreshing thread hope to see more of these : )

That's a great idea your son had. Think I'll take my son when he gets older.

Competitive archery is very exciting. It's too bad I suck at it or I would've loved it. Bought one of those very cheap bows when I was a kid and would always hang around the house shooting tree trunks with it
